Screen Flickering on start up and blackout when windowed

Every time I start up the game it is acting like I'm continuously using alt-tab to switch away from and then back to the game. On the other hand, the music continues without interruption while the flickering occurs. When in windowed mode the screen just goes black. The cursor changes to the game's cursor and the music keeps playing. I'm using my laptop's standard screen, only, with a resolution of 1280 x 800. The screen flickering/black out occurs after the intro video and a loading screen.

Computer specs:
Win 7 SP 1 (32-bit)
Pentium Dual-Core CPU T4200 @ 2.00GHz 2.00GHz
3.00GB of installed RAM
Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family

I've seen that others have had this same problem, but only on dual monitor setups.
