Progress from Princes to Titans (island loot thoughts)
Various thoughts and updates (low grade spoilers):
For reference, playing on hard mode.
Good:
The fight with the last prince was what it should be.
The one with the head cursed hounds not quite, but feels good not to have them around. They had been somewhat nerfed recently (perhaps just a tad too much).
I like the choice between turning in the Emerald Wyvern eggs or getting the point boost (I have chosen the boost).
Still happening:
Although Gaulen can not camouflage now when fatally wounded, the random herb pictures still pop up.
Same for purses with the thief. And, if I am not mistaken, the thief's skills for detecting and disarming traps and locks still functions when he is fatally wounded.
Suggestions:
Would not suggest that a trip to northwest Vilak be a first choice in the new content (to finish up princes). Would wait until you have finished Tower of Rage (for obvious reasons). And the mobs in Rasmura are much easier.
The islands are very similar in nature and difficulty as the prison in Wizardry 7. Also, with the exception of the Titan, not mandatory. The difference, and my main suggestion, would be that the loot should be unique (as in Wizardry). In Wizardry, it was items like "Excalibur" with similar interesting stats. You could use names like "Sword of Athernion" or something in the Xulima lore. The stats do not have to be extraordinary, but still unique enough to warrant use perhaps with the Titans (perhaps spell casting ability or silencing upon hit?). As someone mentioned with the loot from the King of Thieves, the prize is somewhat of a let down (King of Thieves could drop or loot some sort of sword or knife with odd but useful stats such as poison or reduce defense). It is nice that if you guess the Titan directions, you can access prior to the princes being done.
Considering the difficulty in getting the path/directions to the islands, having to buy the ship (Davos is a nice homage), and the unusual battle opponents and their abilities, I would strongly urge that you make the loot more unique.
Also, I do not mind at this time that the chests reset when you reload and unlock again. One was able to do this also in Wizardry (unfortunately had to redo the fight), and the loot table was, of course, percentage driven against truly epic loot but there was a chance....and even slightly epic uniques were given), which helped when the loot did not match the party needs.
All for now.
